Grayscale PDF

Creating a grayscale (black and white) version of a PDF can reduce the file size and make it more suitable for printing. There are several methods you can use to convert a PDF to grayscale:

Adobe Acrobat Pro: With Adobe Acrobat Pro, you can convert color PDFs to grayscale: Open the PDF in Adobe Acrobat Pro. Go to the 'Print Production' tools. If this is not visible, you can find it by clicking on the 'Tools' tab. Click on 'Preflight'. Within Preflight, look for 'Convert to grayscale' under the 'PDF fixups' options. Select the fixup and click 'Analyze and fix'. Save the new grayscale PDF.

Using a PDF Printer: On both Windows and macOS, you can use a PDF printer and the system's print dialog to print a PDF to a file in grayscale: Open the PDF in a viewer such as Adobe Reader. Open the print dialog (usually File > Print or CTRL/CMD + P). Select 'Microsoft Print to PDF' on Windows or 'Save as PDF' on Mac. On Windows, click on 'Preferences' or 'Properties' and look for an option to print in grayscale. On a Mac, in the bottom left of the print dialog, click on 'PDF' and then 'Open PDF in Preview'. In the Preview application on Mac, click on 'File' > 'Export', then choose 'Black & White' from the Quartz Filter dropdown. Save the PDF from the Preview app.
