Woman faces court charged with torture, detaining 19yo for two days

A 34-year-old woman has faced court charged with the torture and deprivation of liberty of a 19-year-old woman in Queensland’s far north.

Kaidii Dayl Ephraums, of Townsville, was charged in relation to an incident in the main street of Cairns, on Friday, June 13.

Police will allege a 19-year-old woman was assaulted in Sheridan Street and then taken to a property where she was held for two days, repeatedly assaulted and had her head shaved.

Officers commenced investigations when a missing person’s report was registered on Saturday, June 14.

The 19-year-old was taken to Cairns Hospital and has since been released.

It is understood the women were known to each other and investigations into a motive are continuing.

“Police have contacted and made enquiries with a number of witnesses,” Detective Inspector Cindy Searle said.

“If people feel they have some information, if they were to come forward to Crime Stoppers or Policelink, that would be appreciated.”

Ms Ephraums is charged with 14 offences, including torture, deprivation of liberty and assault.

She faced court on Monday and was remanded in custody to appear again in the Cairns Magistrates Court on August 5.
