ABC News has ended its relationship with longtime reporter Terry Moran after a post on social media drew internal backlash.

Fired ABC reporter Terry Moran is revealing his next move, days after he was axed from the network for publicly slamming President Donald Trump as a “world-class hater.”

In a social media post on Wednesday, June 11, Moran revealed that he had joined subscription-based newsletter platform Substack, a popular move for axed journos.
“Hello everyone. I’m Terry Moran, and for almost 28 years I was a reporter and anchor for ABC News. As you may have heard, I’m not there anymore,” Moran said, adding that “I’m here, with you, on Substack, this amazing space.”
Moran continued by saying that he “can’t wait to get at it” and do “the important work that we all have to do in this time of such trouble for our country” on Substack.

Joy Reid and Lester Holt are the latest to leave their positions as television news adjusts to changing audience habits.
“I’m going to be reporting and interviewing and just sharing with you and hoping to hear from you as well,” Moran added. “It’ll be a few days, maybe a little bit longer, I’ve got to get some stuff sorted out but can’t wait to see you.”
Earlier this week, ABC News cut ties with Moran, who first joined the network in 1997, just days after suspending him over the social media post about Trump’s deputy chief of staff for policy, Miller.
According to screenshots shared on X, Moran wrote of Miller in his since-deleted post on June 8, “He’s a world-class hater. You can see this just by looking at him because you can see that his hatreds are his spiritual nourishment. He eats his hate.”
The ABC journalist contrasted this with Trump, writing that the president is also a “world-class hater,” but “his hatred only a means to an end, and that end his his (sic) own glorification. That’s his spiritual nourishment.”
“We are at the end of our agreement with Terry Moran and based on his recent post – which was a clear violation of ABC News policies – we have made the decision to not renew,” said an ABC News spokesperson in a June 10 statement to USA TODAY.
“At ABC News, we hold all of our reporters to the highest standards of objectivity, fairness and professionalism, and we remain committed to delivering straightforward, trusted journalism,” the statement continued.
Previously the co-anchor of “Nightline,” Moran covered eight presidential campaign cycles, according to ABC News. In April, Trump sat down with Moran for an interview about his first 100 days in office.
After he was canned from CNN, longtime anchor Jim Acosta joined Substack, telling Vanity Fair earlier this week to “Come on in, Terry. The water is warm.” After leaving their respective posts, other anchors – including CNN’s Don Lemon, NBC’s Chuck Todd and MSNBC’s Joy Reid – have all gone the independent route in their post-network professional lives.
