Rachel Zegler’s Disney Remake Already a Streaming Hit Despite Box Office Bomb – Comic Book Movies and Superhero Movie News

Disney’s Rachel Zegler-led live-action Snow White performed poorly at the box office, but since its debut on streaming, it has found considerable success. The movie came out in U.S. theaters on March 21, 2025, and was panned by both critics and the general audience. However, it has become an instant hit following its debut on Disney+.

Snow White debuted on Disney+ on June 11, 2025, and has quickly become a success. It now holds the top spot among the movies on the platform. The 2002 animated film Lilo & Stitch holds the second spot, followed by the 2025 MCU release, Captain America: Brave New World.

This comes after its disappointing performance at the box office. The live-action reimagining of Walt Disney’s 1937 animated feature currently has a 39% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes after 259 reviews. It made around $205 million at the global box office, falling short of its reported production budget of $240-270 million.

The production of the movie was riddled with controversy. It drew criticism for using motion-capture technology to depict the Seven Dwarfs. Further, both Zegler and her co-star Gal Gadot, who played the Evil Queen, were also subjects of controversy due to their perceived views on certain political matters. The significant number of negative reviews that the movie received in the days leading up to release also likely impacted its box office performance. However, it seems that it has experienced a resurgence in interest following its streaming debut.

Notably, Marc Webb directed Snow White from a script by Erin Cressida Wilson (The Girl on the Train). Besides Zegler and Gadot, the cast includes Andrew Burnap as Jonathan and Ansu Kabia as the Huntsman. Additionally, the movie features the voices of Jeremy Swift as Doc, Martin Klebba as Grumpy, George Salazar as Happy, and more.
