Everyone knows that typically the forecast for Friday night through Sunday evening is one of the most important of any of the year and certainly when we are in June when some of our typically warmest weather occurs.

It’s been a little dicey at times during weekends across Central New York.
As we have already reported, Syracuse has not had a completely dry weekend since November 16-17th (nearly 7 months ago)!
That doesn’t necessarily mean every weekend has been terrible. Case in point, this past weekend. It was mostly lovely for Saturday afternoon June 7th through most of Sunday June 8th. However, there was quite a bit of rain both early Saturday morning and later Sunday evening.

I did some research about Syracuse’s weather since the first day of Spring to find out more specifics recently.
Here is what I found out:
My guess is that you would have not thought that our weather has been warmer than average since the first day of Spring, but it definitely was!!!
The biggest reasons that we all think the weather has been poor are the larger amount of rain we have seen, the very long stretches of chilly wet weather in mid to late May, and the fact that it has not been above average very often recently.

I expect temperatures to be near normal through the weekend but then go higher next week.
It’s part of our next weather makers:
As mentioned above, the position of a southern system will be critical to Central & Upstate New York’s weekend weather!
In short, the further north and west you are the better the chance you will have less rain, less cloud coverage and more sunshine versus other spots. The further south and southeast you are, the better the chance you have much more cloud coverage and longer lasting drizzle or rain alongside only limited to little sunshine. Consequently, it will be cooler the further south and east you are and warmer further north and west you are away from the shoreline of Lake Ontario.
