New Delhi: Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) faces significant staffing shortage, an RTI response obtained by an environmental activist has revealed. The RTI disclosure indicates that out of the sanctioned strength of 603 positions, 134, or approximately 22%, are unfilled as of May 2025. The pollution monitoring authority, responsible for enforcing environmental standards, advertised 69 vacancies in April. “CPCB is still struggling with a 22% staff shortage, which needs to be filled soon as it is impacting the fight against pollution. Although CPCB has issued advertisements for 69 posts, it will still be left with 10% vacancies,” Gupta, an RTI activist, said. Recently, Delhi govt, in a case at NGT, reported that 83 positions were filled in DPCC since June last year. Experts believe Delhi’s pollution control efforts are affected by vacant technical positions. tnn
