Chris Evans Reveals How He Proposed to Wife Alba Baptista

Chris Evans shared rare comments about his relationship with wife Alba Baptista, including the story behind his proposal.

Evans attended the New York City premiere of his upcoming movie, “Materialists,” June 7. On the red carpet, the actor spoke to The Knot and shared a sweet story about his proposal to Baptista, as captured in a TikTok video by the outlet.

“Maybe I shouldn’t even be saying this. I proposed to my wife — she’s Portuguese — so I learned how to say, ‘Will you marry me?’ in Portuguese,” he explained. “I had practiced all week.”

However, Evans might have overdone it with rehearsing his sentimental proposal line.

“I had practiced it so much that while I’d be making breakfast, you almost just start saying it out loud and you’re like ‘Oh God! That’s not just a song that’s stuck in my head. It’s going to let the cat out of the bag!’” he said. “But no, I got really nervous when it came time to do it and I actually think I screwed it up. But I still know it!”

While Evans and Baptista have kept their romance fairly low profile, People reported in November 2022 that the couple had been dating for over a year at the time.

Evans went on to feature Baptista on his Instagram story in January 2023, sharing a recap of the year prior, which included a sequence of the couple attempting to scare each other. The following month in February 2023, he also celebrated Valentine’s Day by posting several photos with Baptista, who is an actor, too.

The couple reportedly got married in September 2023 at a private ceremony in Cape Cod, though they did not share the announcement publicly. Evans later confirmed their marriage during an October 2023 appearance at New York Comic Con.

In one clip from the event, he shared details about their nuptials, which included two wedding ceremonies.

“I got married,” Evans explained. “It was really, really great. We kinda had two ceremonies. We had one on the East Coast. We did one in Portugal. My wife’s Portuguese.”

Despite having ceremonies that were both “wonderful and beautiful” in their own right, Evans added that two weddings can take “a lot out of you.”

“Now that we’re through that, we’ve just kinda been enjoying life, gearing up for autumn, my favorite season,” he continued at the time. “It’s, like, the best time of year right now. Now we’re just relaxing and enjoying life and reflecting.”
