Sinner has been backed to win the French Open, which Alcaraz won in 2024 after his final success over Alexander Zverev.

Zverev also lost this year’s Australian Open final to Sinner, who currently occupies the top spot in the ATP rankings.

He is closely followed by Alcaraz, with Zverev sitting in third as Taylor Fritz and Jack Draper complete the top five.

“My thing would just be on their early things we have seen with Alcaraz and injuries. I don’t know how a body moves that fast for 15 years.

“But I said the same thing about Rafa [Nadal]. I was wrong about Rafa. I thought there was no way this guy plays past 27, there was just no way.

“I would go Sinner just because I can see him doing the same algorithm. I view him as the piece of software. Input and output. With Carlos I am just like one he is an artist, he is going to get tired of it?

“I would go Sinner just because it seems like every Tuesday is the same. But neither would surprise me, I say that with zero confidence.”

Jannik Sinner vs Carlos Alcaraz career Grand Slam titles

Of course Grand Slam titles cannot fully be the measure of the all-time greats, but it certainly helps to have won multiple.

And despite their relatively brief careers so far, both Sinner and Alcaraz fall into that category, with many, many more wins expected.

It is Serbian legend Novak Djokovic who tops the men’s all-time pile with 24 Grand Slam titles, followed by Rafael Nadal’s 22.

Roger Federer occupies third spot in the list with 20, with the 14 of Pete Sampras the closest number to the Big Three.

Whether or not Sinner and Alcaraz follow suit remains to be seen, but they are undoubtedly going about it the right way.

The Italian has three Grand Slam titles to his name at the age of 23, with Alcaraz on four despite being a year younger, while the Spaniard also leads their head-to-head 7-4.

Intriguingly, both players have won 19 ATP Tour titles in their fantastic careers so far, with the Spaniard having reached that tally after defeating his rival in last month’s Italian Open final.

Alcaraz is already on three titles for the 2025 season so far, with Sinner having clinched his only success to date at the Australian Open, just before he accepted a three-month ban.
