Back in February of last year, Jack Hermansson handed Pyfer his first loss under the UFC banner much to the delight of fans who were quick to call it a ‘fraud check’. However, he argues that it wasn’t a bad enough defeat to warrant such a commentary.
He instead believes fans should look to Nickal’s vicious knockout loss to Reinier De Ridder when looking for a true example of a ‘fraud check’.

Joe Pyfer has an intimate understanding of how it feels to have fans label a performance a ‘fraud check’ after suffering his first UFC defeat last year. However, he has since come back with a win, and believes that he deserves more respect for his performance against Hermansson.

“That was my first big show, my first big test and I walked into it not 100 per cent,” Pyfer told press including Bloody Elbow at the UFC 316 Media Day yesterday. “I had some things going on and it wasn’t my best performance.
“But I didn’t get rocked, I didn’t get dropped, I didn’t get submitted, I didn’t get ‘fraud checked’. Let’s redefine what ‘fraud checked’ is and if anybody got ‘fraud checked’ we can say it was Bo Nickal, he got finished on his first loss. I lost a split decision basically three rounds to two so it is what it is.

After he was forced to pull out of his fight with Kelvin Gastelum on the day of UFC Mexico City back in March, Joe Pyfer came in for heavy criticism online. He isn’t taking that sitting down, hitting back at fans and doubling down on his comments about his disdain for competing and spending time in Mexico.

“I’ve never had to pull out of a fight,” he explained. “So it was very disheartening to see people be like ‘I hope the cartel kills you, we hope your plane crashes, you’re a p—-, we hope you die from whatever it is.
“Okay then suck my d—. That’s how I felt and that’s why I said ‘Mexico is a s—hole and I’ll never go back and I won’t fight there. The people were nice, I have no problem with them but fighting there as a professional athlete makes no f—ing sense to me.
“That’s just my personal opinion and everybody tries to claim they love free speech until it’s spoken and they try to censor you or they try to say you’re racist. Whatever, think what the f— you want, I don’t give a f—.
“My coaches and my teammate got stopped by police trying to shake them down for cash they didn’t have. Like, come on, dude.
“We’ve got to talk about f—ing why someone would argue that it’s not the best country, all we have to do is look at how many people have f—ing crossed the border in how many years.”
