WASHINGTON – Severe weather is picking up in the D.C. region.
A tornado warning was issued for Frederick and Hampshire counties in Virginia. That warning expired at 5:30 p.m. A severe thunderstorm warning was also in effect until 5:45 p.m.
While the warnings have expired, the threat of intense rain remains. FOX 5 meteorologist Mike Thomas says if the cell continues at its current pace, it could have a heavy impact on the central D.C. region.

*Isolated Severe Risk*
The latest trends have shifted towards a more shower-filled early morning, followed by hit-or-miss activity in the afternoon.
Most regions should stay dry in the afternoon and evening hours, with just some isolated storms.
With humidity high in the region, we did bring back the threat for one or two of these storms being on the stronger side, though most guidance suggests the highest risk of these will be well south of DC. Highs are expected to be in the lower 80s with high humidity.
Sunday:
*Isolated Severe Risk*
Most models are now leaning toward a wetter solution, with a period of moderate to heavy rain and thunderstorms possible during the morning hours with showers and perhaps a rumble of thunder lingering well into the afternoon.
There is “washout potential” to it on some model solutions. Highs have been dropped into the middle 70s with this wave of moisture. SPC at a marginal risk for the day, though futurecast sounding are not indicative of any organized severe weather, just like Saturday this potential is more favored well to our south, though we may have to watch for some isolated flash flooding if morning rainfall is heavy enough.
Unsettled conditions look to continue early next week, before another shot at our first 90°F+ day of the year arrives at the end of the next week.
