The Mariners finally got back in the win column last night thanks to one of the most complete games they’ve played as a team since…the opening game of the series against Washington, when they won 9-1. If you’re looking at this glass half-empty, the Mariners went on to lose 11 of their next 14 games after that, so maybe it would have been better to eke out another close win. But if you’re looking at this glass half-full, George Kirby takes the mound tonight after his best outing of the season, a fourteen-strikeout performance against the Angels.

In case you missed the news yesterday, Leody Taveras cleared waivers and has been outrighted to Tacoma. Also, the Mariners returned Logan Evans to Tacoma and summoned reliever Zach Pop, who will likely only be here until the team activates Logan Gilbert.

- 2010: With the Mariners playing St. Louis, it becomes the first time in 68 years that two players with at least 5,000 career at-bats and a career average of at least .330 faced off in the same game (Ichiro, .333, Albert Pujols .332).
