The 33-year-old was actually scheduled to face Miles Johns in Nov. 2024, but withdrew for undisclosed reasons. Now, the reason is clear: a continued case of vertigo.

“Being out of something you’d do anything for is challenging — mentally, emotionally, physically — especially after the fight at UFC 300,” Garbrandt revealed during UFC Atlanta media day. “I was feeling great against a tough opponent. I got taken down in the second round and had really bad vertigo. I had to go through extensive therapy and see specialists — I was in-and-out of the hospital for vertigo.

“The uncertainty of when I’d be able to return to my normal self was tough,” he continued. “I couldn’t lie down or sleep. It was troubling, but I kept faith in myself, prayed to my God, and relied on a close team. When I was sitting in the hospital bed, I wanted to do anything to get back to fighting, but there was no way I was making it.

“I want to thank the UFC Performance Institute for putting my health first,” Garbrandt finished.
