During an appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers on Friday, June 13, the Wicked actor, 72, opened up about attending Broadway’s Good Night, and Good Luck and meeting the play’s leading man George Clooney backstage after the show, which ended its limited run on June 8.
According to Goldblum, he had the chance to brush shoulders with a few stars while backstage — including Beatles legend Paul McCartney, 82.
“I was very excited,” the Jurassic Park alum told Meyers. “… After the play, I was looking and [McCartney and I] both got a chance to go backstage and meet George and the cast.”

“I saw him in the flesh for the first time ever, and there he was,” Goldblum said, recalling how he thought to himself: ” ‘My golly, I’m very starstruck,’ because he means a lot to me.”
Goldblum said that as he and the Broadway cast were taking photos, McCartney immediately recognized him and offered to snap a photo together.
“He was very nice,” the actor continued, before joking: “This is bragging, I shouldn’t do it.”
“But he said, ‘Jeff, Jeff Goldblum. I love Jeff Goldblum. Come here, Jeff, let’s take a picture,’ and all that stuff,” he recalled. “It made my life and my year.”

Sharing a story from when he was a kid, Goldblum also spoke about his love for the Beatles, telling the Late Night audience: “Everybody, you’ve all got stories like this.”
“But I was a kid when ‘I Want to Hold Your Hand’ and ‘She Loves You,’ came out,” he said, sharing a few lyrics from the 1964 track.
“And I remember Suzy Connolly … in her cut-off jean shorts, and I was like 12, 13,” he recounted. “And they went, ‘Here, come and listen to this song.’ It’s all mixed in my nostalgic bosom in a way that’s very, very exciting and meaningful.”

According to Goldblum, he couldn’t recall exactly whether he and McCartney shook hands backstage on Broadway, but if they did, he joked he would have grabbed his entire arm by demonstrating the move on Meyers.
“Yeah, get the germs. You want some of those germs,” Meyers joked as Goldblum pretended to wipe his hands on his face.
“I may never have washed my hands,” he joked.

Elsewhere in his conversation with the Saturday Night Live alum, Goldblum joked about his bad habit of name-dropping the many celebrities he’s met over the years.
“I impress my own self with a lot of the people that I seem to have rubbed shoulders with,” he told Meyers. “I have to, as a matter of fact, restrain myself from taking reflected glory and saying, ‘Hey, you know who else I met? You know who else I know? I seem to like that. I shouldn’t do that. And starting here and now, I won’t.'”
