Brooklyn Park could soon be home to a Hindu place of worship.

BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir is currently based in Brooklyn Center at 2300 Freeway Blvd.

However, temple officials told the Brooklyn Park Planning Commission on Wednesday that the congregation has outgrown its building. As a result, the congregation wants to move to a larger facility at 8700 Wyoming Ave., in an industrial area in western Brooklyn Park.

If the proposal is approved, the temple expects to see 200 to 300 worshipers for each Sunday service.

The planning commission voted to approve the plans.

However, the Brooklyn Park City Council has the final say. It’s expected to vote on the proposal on June 23.
