Guardians, Seattle Mariners series preview, pitching matchups

CLEVELAND, Ohio — This is a preview of the three-game series between the Guardians and Mariners.

Where: T-Mobile Park, Friday through Sunday.

Probable pitchers and start times: RHP Gavin Williams (5-3, 3.86) vs. RHP Luis Castillo (4-4, 3.31) on Friday at 10:10 p.m.; RHP Tanner Bibee (4-6, 3.81) vs. RHP George Kirby (1-3, 6.53) on Saturday at 9:40 p.m.; RHP Luis Ortiz (3-7, 4.26) vs. RHP Emerson Hancock (2-2, 5.04) on Sunday at 4:10 p.m.

Series: Guardians won four out of six meetings between the teams last year. Seattle leads the all-time series 216-210.

Mariners update (33-34): Cal Raleigh is hitting .264 with 44 runs, 11 doubles, 26 home runs, 53 RBI, 38 walks and seven stolen bases, with a .370 on-base percentage, .632 slugging percentage and 1.002 OPS. Raleigh leads MLB catchers in practically every offensive category, and ranks first in MLB in home runs and second in slugging. In 29 appearances, Andrés Muñoz is 2-0 with 18 saves and a 1.30 ERA with 10 walks (2 intentional), 36 strikeouts and a 0.830 WHIP. Since being reinstated from the injured list on May 3, Matt Brash has posted a 0.00 ERA in 12 appearances with six holds and 12 strikeouts, limiting opponents to a .194 average. Julio Rodríguez is tied for the MLB lead among outfielders with 10 defensive runs saved.

Guardians update (35-32): José Ramírez collected his 379th career double Wednesday, passing Earl Averill for the third-most doubles in Cleveland history. Ramírez also extended his career-long on-base streak to 37 games since April 30. Ramírez is batting .385 (55 for 143) with 19 extra-base hits (11 doubles, one triple, seven homers), 19 RBI and a 1.072 OPS during the streak. Carlos Santana is batting .302 with two home runs, seven RBI and an .826 OPS. Lane Thomas homered Wednesday and has four hits in three games since rejoining the Guardians from the injured list. Kyle Manzardo picked up his first pinch hit of the season and his ninth multi-hit game. He owns a .238 batting average (5 for 21) with three RBI as a pinch hitter in his career. Cleveland is 8-5 against Seattle, winning the season series between the two clubs in 2023 and 2024.

Guardians: C Austin Hedges (concussion), RHP Andrew Walters (right lat), RHP Ben Lively (right elbow), OF Will Brennan (left forearm inflammation), RHP Paul Sewald (right shoulder), RHP Shane Bieber (right elbow), RHP Trevor Stephan (right elbow), LHP John Means (left elbow), LHP Sam Hentges (left shoulder) and LHP Erik Sabrowski (left elbow) are on the injured list.
