The Bachelor couple — who met and fell in love during the 29th season of the reality dating series — have ended their engagement less than three months after it aired on television.

Ellis, 31, announced the news on his Instagram Story on Friday, June 13, writing, “This is one of the harder things I’ve had to write, but I want to share it honestly. Juliana and I have decided to end our relationship.”

“We both gave this our best and poured a lot of love into each other, but after a lot of deep conversations, we’ve come to the understanding that we’re simply not the right fit long term. What we had was meaningful,” he continued. “The connection we built on the show was real, and so was the effort we made to continue once the cameras stopped rolling.”

“There’s no negativity here. No resentment. Just two people who care about each other and want the best for one another moving forward. I’ll always be grateful for what we shared and for the growth that came with it. Thank you to everyone who supported us and believed in our journey. This chapter is closing, but we’re both walking away with love and respect in our hearts.”

Pasquarosa, 28, also shared the news on social media, writing on her Instagram Story, “It’s a gift to find someone who sees the world in a way that resonates with you, while encouraging you to grow. I’ve been grateful to share that experience with Grant.

“Marriage is a commitment, and it’s one we both still believe in deeply,” she continued. “After a lot of honest conversations and reflection, we’ve come to the decision that this chapter of our lives is meant to continue on separate paths.”

She noted the pair “shared something meaningful, navigating a unique journey side by side [and] learning, growing and showing up for each other the best we knew how.”

“While this isn’t the ending we once imagined, it’s one filled with mutual respect, care and hope for what’s ahead,” she said, adding they were be “cheering each other on, just from different places now.”

She concluded her message by asking fans to “please be kind.”

The pair got engaged in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic on the Bachelor finale, which aired in March.

Before he got down on one knee, Pasquarosa shared that he made her feel “deserving of the type of love you’ve given me.” He later called it “the happiest day of my life.”

“Juliana, since our first night playing the piano and getting to know you, we’ve always had a connection,” he said. “Through this whole journey, you’ve been somebody who has inspired me and kept me laughing with your contagious smile, because we understand what we’ve been through, and we understand what it means to persevere.”

“I truly believe that you’re somebody who is my best friend, and I’m so grateful for our journey, and when you’re going through the toughest times in your life, I want you to know that you don’t have to go through it alone, that I’ll be there for you, as your man, as your friend, as your partner,” he said before asking, “Will you marry me?”

Teary-eyed, she accepted his marriage proposal, exclaiming, “Yes. Absolutely, baby!”

Following the engagement, they opened up about their relationship to PEOPLE and shared that there was a “spark” from the beginning.

“You could tell there was a bit of an instant spark,” Pasquarosa recalled. “I think it was in his eye contact and his body language when I got out… He was a lot taller and a lot more handsome in person.”

The former couple also shared that while they were in “no rush” to get married, they had no doubts they’ve found the right spouse in each other. “I was looking for somebody with compassion and somebody with character, and I found that,” the Bachelor said.
