Friday’s thunderstorms, albeit with relatively warm weather, will be a distant memory a few days later, with peak temperatures not expected to drop below 21C with plenty of sunshine expected.

Meanwhile, the African holiday destination made famous by the wartime hit film starring Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman will also enjoy sun and clouds, but will be 23C on Wednesday as opposed to Southampton’s high of 25C.

A long range forecast looking beyond midweek next week suggests the weather will continue in the same vein.

A Met Office post says: “From mid week, high pressure is signalled to dominate much of the UK, bringing dry and fine weather, and feeling warm in the sunshine with light winds for most.

“Any early morning mist or fog will be quick to clear, and daytime temperature will likely trend around or above normal for the time of year.”

Following high pressure brining mainly dry and warm weather across the UK in the next week or more, the weather during late June and early July is expected to turn more changeable, with spells of rain or showers probable for all parts at times.

Rain or showers could be heavy and thundery. Temperatures are likely to be above average overall, as is the chance of any very warm or hot spells.
