WB Education: The West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education (WBCHSE) has recently issued several important notifications. These circulars announce an extension for the introduction of new subjects in institutions and outline new subject selection rules for students repeating Class XI.

Deadline Extended for New Subject Introduction

In significant news for educational institutions, the deadline to apply for the introduction of new subjects has been extended again. Based on several requests from institutions, the last date for applying for new subject introduction for the 2025-26 academic year has been moved to the 12th of June, 2025. All applications must be submitted through the online portal. No applications for subject introduction will be accepted via the online portal after this specified date.

Previously, this deadline had been extended to the 8th of June, 2025, as per a notification dated 30/05/2025. Institutions must ensure they complete their application process within this final extended timeline.

New Opportunity for Class XI Repeaters

A special provision has been announced for students who will be repeating Class XI (i.e., Semester I and Semester II) under the new semester system curriculum. These students are now permitted to choose a new combination of subjects from the very first semester. They can select subjects from any of the prescribed sets (i.e., Set I, Set II, and Set III) as per the council’s regulations, provided the subjects are available in their respective institutions.

Action Required:

To avail this facility, the concerned institutions or their authorized representatives must visit their respective Regional Offices of the Council. The following documents are required for the process:

  • A recommendation letter from the Head of the Institution
  • The student’s registration certificate and mark sheet from the Secondary Examination
  • Requisite fees, if applicable

This new regulation has been in effect since the 23rd of May, 2025, and will remain in force until a further notification is issued.
