Met Office predicts 29C on Friday but heavy rain and thunder on its way

High temperatures, heavy showers and thunder is forecast as we head towards the weekend

Wednesday saw glorious sunshine over many parts of the UK, and the warm temperatures are set to return on Friday—but heavy rain and thunder are also on their way.

The Met Office says today will remain warm and humid in the UK, with thunderstorms mainly in the west.

Rain will affect southwest England and Wales, and it will be heavy and thundery at times. The rain will continue to move north and east as the day goes on.

Brighter conditions will follow, although the Met Office warns that there could be some heavy and possibly thundery showers at times.

Despite the breeze, the day will feel warm and humid, with top temperatures in the south east of the country hitting 25C while it’s forecast to be a muggy 22C in Greater Manchester during mid-afternoon.

The Met Office says tonight will be: “Rather cloudy with patchy rain at times in the west, occasionally heavy at first. Clearer spells further east. A very mild and muggy feeling night, especially in the south.”

Friday is forecast to be drier and warmer, possibly reaching 29C on the. East Coast. The top temperature in Greater Manchester is 24C around 3 p.m. tomorrow afternoon.

The Met Office says the UK on Friday will be: “Largely dry by day with occasional brighter spells and some showers in the west.

“Heavier, thundery rain arriving from the south and southeast during the evening. Remaining warm and humid.”

Looking towards the weekend and to Monday, heavy rain and thunderstorms are set to move north on Saturday with “hail and gusty winds” forecast.

This will ease on Sunday, leaving a largely dry day with bright spells on Monday that will feel fresher.
