Mariah May debuted in NXT last week. Early speculation led to the belief that she would be using a new name moving forward. That turned out to be true, as Tuesday’s show revealed her new name, Blake Monroe. The reveal came during a vignette influenced by Sabrina Carpenter.
Fans immediately wondered what inspired the new name. “Blake Monroe” is reportedly a tribute to Hollywood icon Marilyn Monroe, as well as May’s real-life niece, Blake.
Unfortunately, Blake Monroe also shares a link with the adult film industry, as there is also an adult film actress with the same name. That performer doesn’t appear to be active anymore. However, there’s another Blake Monroe with links to the adult entertainment arena.

This other Blake currently works as an adult/burlesque dancer, and boasts winning awards like Miss Burlesque United States and Best Fire at Miss Nude World for her Pyro Show.
WWE has had similar issues with names in the past
WWE had a similar issue with trying to use “Submission Sorority” as a stable name for Paige, Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair. Paige also warned them of the link to pornography, and WWE rolled back on the name and abandoned the trademark.
WWE also changed course on Gunther’s original name, Gunther Stark, once fans pointed out that “Gunther Stark” was also the name of a Nazi Germany U-boat commander.
Despite the surprising discovery, fans seem split on finding out about the other Blake Monroes out there. Some wrestling fans feel like it’s an unfortunate coincidence. However, there might be enough distance between them where WWE’s star can make the name her own. Others criticized the company for not doing better research, and they still aren’t sure why WWE doesn’t do a better job at Googling names before presenting them on television.

It remains to be seen if WWE will keep May’s new name or change course again. The promotion applied to trademark “Blake Monroe” on June 10. She is also set to sign her contract on the June 17 episode of NXT.
