Another noteworthy opponent has been added to the Texas women’s basketball team’s schedule.

Texas found out Thursday that it will match up with North Carolina in the ACC/SEC Challenge during the 2025-26 season. The Tar Heels are set to visit Texas at Moody Center on Dec. 4.

Last season, UT was beaten in overtime by Notre Dame in its ACC/SEC Challenge debut.

One year later, Texas will again be featured in one of the ACC/SEC Challenge’s marquee matchups. Of the 16 games in this annual clash between the conferences’ women’s basketball teams, just five — North Carolina State at Oklahoma, LSU at Duke, South Carolina at Louisville, Notre Dame at Ole Miss and North Carolina at Texas — feature two teams that won a game in the NCAA Tournament.

Texas is coming off a season in which it went 35-4 and reached the Final Four for the first time since 2003. This past season, UNC was a Sweet 16 participant that went 29-8.

Texas and North Carolina have played just once before. During the 1980-81 season, UNC recorded a 75-73 victory over UT in Charlotte.

The addition of UNC to the Texas schedule gives the Longhorns another challenge before SEC play begins. Texas coach Vic Schaefer told reporters last month that the Longhorns will revive their rivalry with Baylor at a neutral site next season. Texas owes South Dakota State a trip to the Jackrabbits’ gym; Richmond and James Madison teams that combined for 58 wins last season should appear on UT’s home schedule since Texas traveled to play those teams this past winter. Texas could also run into South Carolina, Duke and UCLA at a Las Vegas showcase in November.

Baylor, Richmond, South Dakota State and Duke all won NCAA Tournament games last season. South Carolina and UCLA joined Texas at the Final Four in Tampa.
