In a significant move blending tourism promotion with strategic outreach, the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC), commonly known as Visit Maldives, has officially named Bollywood actor Katrina Kaif as the Global Brand Ambassador for the island nation. The announcement coincides with the launch of the Maldives’ Summer Sale Campaign, which aims to drive international tourism during the upcoming travel season.

According to a report by a leading news agency, the Government of India is seriously considering an invitation extended to Prime Minister Narendra Modi by Maldivian President Mohamed Muizzu.

Maldives Foreign Minister Abdulla Khaleel is said to have reiterated the invite during his recent visit to India.

One of the proposed dates for PM Modi’s visit is July 26, which is celebrated as Maldives Independence Day.

If confirmed, it would be Prime Minister Modi’s first visit to the island nation since President Muizzu took office in November 2023.

The visit could play a significant role in revitalizing bilateral ties between the two countries, especially in areas of tourism, infrastructure, and regional cooperation.
