This past Saturday, it was shockingly announced that former UFC star Ben Askren is in ‘critical condition’ after being hit with a severe staph infection and subsequently pneumonia.

Just a few days later, Askren’s wife released a statement online, thanking the entire MMA community for their continued support, stating that Askren is battling a ‘severe’ health issue.

‘Funky’ last competed in the premier promotion in 2019 when he was unfortunately submitted by one of the greatest MMA grapplers of all time, Demian Maia.

Darren Till offers words of support for Ben Askren

Despite having never clashed inside the Octagon, Askren has a longstanding feud with former UFC star, Darren Till.

Back in 2019, Till labeled Askren a ‘w—–‘ who tries to ‘demean’ other fighters, and it seemed inevitable that the two would clash inside of the Octagon.

Both Askren’s and Till’s careers went in a similar direction as the Brit also left the UFC in 2022 after several losses, looking for a big payday in boxing.

However, despite their historical feud, the former UFC welterweight title challenger has offered some words of support for Askren.

“Heard Ben Askren is in some kind of condition that’s quite heavy,” Till said in a post on X.

“Hope he is ok and his family. As fighters we all have complete crazy beef and yes most of the time it’s real and blah blah. But at the end of the day we all have families and we all started doing this to be champions, fighters and to make money.

“So besides all the talking s— etc, I always hope every one of us is healthy and wealthy. Hope he pulls through,” Till continued.

Darren Till continues fighting career

Despite Askren’s retirement from the sport, ‘The Gorilla’ continues his career in combat sports, and has turned his attention to boxing.

Last month, Till scored a big win over former UFC fighter, Darren Stewart, when the two met in the boxing ring on Misfits & DAZN x Series 21.

Now, the Brit will wait to see the result of Jake Paul‘s upcoming fight against Julio Cesar Chavez Jr as he will undoubtedly target a fight against ‘The Problem Child’.
