The event also focused on the 1700th anniversary of the Council of Nicaea. The theme was “One Church, One Faith, One Lord,” taken from the last line of Edward H. Plumptre’s hymn “Thy hand O God has guided.”
Roberts said that the hymns chosen for this year were in keeping with upcoming WCC 6th World Conference of Faith and Order. “The nine hymns all captured the three pillars of the October conference: faith, mission, and unity,” he said.
Various local church leaders shared testimonies based on different hymns. The hymns were led by a 70-member combined ecumenical choir, supported by organ, piano, a combo, and brass ensemble with timpani. The Barbados Gospelfest is celebrating its 32nd year and Hymnspeak was first introduced in 2006.
