As the summer heat fades in Tamil Nadu, widespread rain has made a strong return. After a sweltering afternoon, Chennai witnessed heavy downpours with gusty winds on Sunday evening, disrupting daily life in several parts of the city.
Areas like Aiyaram Vilkkadu, Thiruverkadu, Vadapalani, Koyambedu, Parimunai, Teynampet, Guindy, Virugambakkam, and Valasaravakkam saw sudden showers, making commuting difficult for motorists. The rain is expected to continue in the city for the next few hours, according to local forecasts.
Meanwhile, the Chennai Meteorological Department has confirmed that rainfall was recorded in some parts of North and South Tamil Nadu, as well as Puducherry. However, dry weather persisted in Karaikal. The heaviest rainfall recorded was 7 cm in Salem, Mettur, Dharmapuri, and Pennagaram.

In the last 24 hours, a slight temperature increase of 1–3°C was observed in a few parts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, with some areas recording 2–4°C above normal temperatures. Elsewhere, temperatures remained close to average.
