Stronger storms move out of Tri-County area, isolated storms still possible

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) – The bulk of severe storms affecting the Tri-County area have moved out, the National Weather Service says.

Charleston, Berkeley and Dorchester Counties faced the threat of storms through 11:45 a.m., though a previously-issued formal severe thunderstorm warning had expired earlier in the morning.

Doppler radar tracked a line of strong storms from 6 miles south of Cross to over Kiawah Island, moving northeast at 45 mph.

Those storms have since moved out, but the isolated severe thunderstorms remain possible on Tuesday. Those storms will carry damaging winds as the primary threat.

Gusty winds could damage roofs, siding and trees. Fallen trees and limbs can bring down power lines, causing outages. Hail could damage outdoor objects.

A severe thunderstorm warning Charleston, Berkeley, Dorchester and Colleton Counties officially expired at 10:45 a.m., but storms remained in the area. A previous warning for Beaufort County expired at 10:15 a.m.
