While speaking with PEOPLE about the new season of the hit Netflix series, the 36-year-old actress admits that she initially thought her character was “absolutely insane and unhinged and over the top.” However, since becoming a mom to a baby girl, she says everything has changed.
“Prior to having a child, of course, I thought many of the Georgia-isms were absolutely insane and unhinged and over the top, and why is she taking up so much space?” she tells PEOPLE. “Now that I have a child, I am so obsessed with her that I understand why Georgia is so obsessed with Ginny, and my heart only got bigger and I just have even more respect for all the moms out there.”

“Amy [Schumer] called me the night before and said, ‘Why is nobody talking about their birth stories?’ So that’s what we did,” Howey remembered. “Then the next day, we went to set and that’s my real birth story, actually.”
“So it was a really intimate, kind of in the moment felt a little bit risky, but very safe at the same time because it was just me and Amy,” she shared of her costar Amy Schumer. “And I’m so grateful to her for wanting to take a swing and really go big with that scene.”

In the scene, Howey’s character said, “Everything went awry. I started bleeding out a lot. And [my baby] was on my chest, so I was actually in heaven. I was so fine. But I guess what was happening wasn’t okay. I was just losing a lot, a lot of blood. And it was the first time I saw [my husband] Steve scared.”
Schumer’s character then asks, “Did you think you were gonna, like, die?” Howey replies, “Maybe.”
