Lorna’s story in The Lincoln Lawyer season 4 will be very different, but it has to avoid a big book twist after replacing an important character. The Lincoln Lawyer season 3 ended with Lorna helping Mickey win his case, proving Julian’s innocence in the murder of Gloria. However, this victory was upended by both its bittersweet conclusion and what happened to her ex-husband afterwards. The final moments of season 3 see Mickey get pulled over, his trunk opened to reveal the body of Sam Scales; the main character has been framed for murder.

The Lincoln Lawyer season 4 will focus on the aftermath of Mickey getting framed, with the protagonist now the wrongly accused who needs to be defended. While all the characters in The Lincoln Lawyer who are part of his team will rally around him, Lorna will be the most important in leading his defense. Not only did she pass the California Bar Exam in season 3, but her contributions were integral to the series’ latest case. However, her story also replaced that of another character from the original book series.

While Lorna is Mickey’s right-hand law partner in the TV show, the book series of the same name written by Michael Connelly tell a different story. While The Lincoln Lawyer skips some books while adapting the stories of others, the approach to each case remains generally faithful to each novel. However, the series has made one stark change by removing the character of Jennifer Aronson. In the books, Jennifer is a young criminal defense attorney learning from Mickey, and who has major roles in both books used for seasons 2 and 3 of the show.

During season 3’s book, The Gods of Guilt, she played a key role in helping Andre La Cosse prove his innocence for Gloria’s murder. Both of these elements were removed from the show alongside her character, with Lorna taking up the mantle of the protagonist’s legal protégé. However, this change also means a key event from season 4’s book, The Law of Innocence, probably isn’t going to happen.

Jennifer Ends Up Having To Step Away From Defending Mickey

In The Law of Innocence, Jennifer is originally tasked with helping defend Mickey after he’s framed for Sam’s murder. However, she ends up having to step away from the case after her father dies, withdrawing despite being a major part of his defense team. This adds a new hurdle for Mickey as he tries to exonerate himself, something that stirs the pot and makes things more difficult in the process. It’s a major part of the story, though, as it requires other characters to make important decisions to keep his defense strong.

Since Lorna is helping Mickey in the TV show, it seems unlikely they’ll have her suddenly leave the case because of something that happens outside of it. Season 3 made her a more centralized character with much more to do, including her own storyline about the Bar Exam. It wouldn’t make sense for her to leave the series during its climactic moments. This makes her role a very crucial change from the book, as she’s unlikely to excuse herself from the case like Jennifer. The conflicts that do crop up during the case could be entirely original to the adaptation.

She’ll Have To Fight The Justice System To Protect Her Friend

Lorna is no stranger to defending clients that didn’t commit the crimes they were accused of, a specialty among Mickey’s biggest cases. However, now she’s up against a new challenge because she’s defending him from a murder charge. Her role on his defense team is probably going to be just as important as Jennifer’s was, though she’s likely going to keep up her work throughout the entire case. This means she’ll be stepping into her friend’s shoes to defend him in her biggest defense case of her career so far.

Because of her role on Mickey’s team, Lorna is going to be a key part of his defense in The Lincoln Lawyer season 4. Because of Jennifer’s absence in the TV show universe, the protagonist’s ex-wife is unlikely to stop her pursuit of justice, no matter what obstacles might end up standing in her way. Because of Lorna’s newfound importance to the case, it seems like the show’s adaptation of The Law of Innocence will have plenty of differences to help center its established characters and their roles.
