Perhaps of some interest to the Indianapolis Colts, the Cincinnati Bengals have reportedly released linebacker Germaine Pratt, according to Tom Pelissero.

Pratt has played all six of his NFL seasons up to this point with the Bengals and under now Colts’ defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo. So there would be obvious comfort for Pratt within the Colts’ defensive scheme, not to mention the value he would bring to the other linebackers and defenders with his experience in that system as it’s being implemented.

Linebacker is also a position group for the Colts that is lacking in experience. Outside of Zaire Franklin, the next most experienced defender on the Colts’ linebacker depth chart is Jaylon Carlies with 242 career snaps.

I also don’t believe that this would be an addition that would prohibit the Colts from still starting Carlies–who the team is very bullish on–next to Franklin, but having Pratt on the team would provide experienced depth and the Colts with another option to lean on.
Pelissero would note that Pratt was a team captain with the Bengals and ranked in the top 10 in tackles last season. Pratt was one of only three players with 140-plus tackles and six or more turnover plays.
Along with those tackling totals, Pratt has been a reliable tackler and totaled 22 quarterback pressures as well over the last two seasons combined, according to PFF.

In coverage over his career, he has held pass catchers to 9.6 yards per reception and has generated eight interceptions and 10 pass breakups.
The Colts currently have $20.13 million in available cap space, which should give them plenty of room to make this addition if they want to go down that path.
