Heavy rain that lasted over an hour caught residents of Dharwad off guard and left several roads inundated.

It was as if like the entire city had been brought to a halt because of the heavy rain which began around 3 p.m. and lashed the city for more than an hour.

The downpour resulted in old PB Road in Dharwad connecting Hubballi fully waterlogged. Poor drainage network and choked gutters resulted in the waterlogging and vehicular movement was brought to a halt for some time.

Because of waterlogging, traffic at important junctions in the city, including NTTF, Toll Naka, KMF and near SDM, was affected, while even the dedicated bus corridor (BRTS) too was flooded.

Being a holiday there was no immediate help from the authorities and relief came late. At KMF, an ambulance vehicle too was caught in the traffic.

Meanwhile, the downpour resulted in rainwater entering low-lying areas like Saidapur, Rani Chennamma Nagar and adjoining areas.

The downpour, however, brought cheers in the rural areas, where farmers have already sown seeds. Following pre-monsoon rainfall, farmers took up early sowing and they were worried as the rain gods took a respite subsequently. However, Sunday’s rain has brought the smiles back on their faces.
