Why Coco Gauff’s Father Won’t Support Her in Player Box Despite Being at French Open 2025 Final – Here’s What the American Said

Coco Gauff has been enjoying a dominant run at the ongoing French Open, reaching the final, where she will take on Aryna Sabalenka. The 21-year-old’s parents also joined her in Paris, and while her mother, Candi, is expected to be present in her box, her father, Corey, might be absent, something she has previously explained.

Why Will Corey Gauff Be Absent from Coco Gauff’s Player Box at the 2025 French Open Final?

The World No. 2 shares an utterly close bond with her parents, Corey and Candi. Her father, Corey, who was also her first coach, is often seen cheering her on from the stands. During her French Open campaign, the American even took some time off as she enjoyed an outing to an escape room with her family.

Although Corey will be present at Roland Garros for the final, he may not be seated in his daughter’s player box. This is due to his emotional nature and visibly intense reactions when Coco makes mistakes on court. The American has explained in the past that this is precisely why she chooses to keep her father out of her player box.

“That’s why he is not at the box (laughs). Yeah, because his nervous energy because naturally he has been with me my whole life so I would look at him at in the points. Sometimes, I miss a shot, and he would just do like this, and like, something crazy. So, we decided this tournament that we are going to put you somewhere else where we can’t see you, so that way you will still be here,” she told Sky Sports during the 2023 US Open.

Coco Gauff‘s mother, Candi, has been a regular presence in her player box, often seen cheering her on alongside other team members. However, Coco deliberately avoids having both her parents in the box at the same time.

“And to be honest this has worked much better because apparently while they are in the box, my mom and dad would like get at each other, my mom would get mad at him for showing his reaction, then my dad would get mad at my mom for trying to calm him down. I think it works much better for them when they are sitting at different places,” the 21-year-old revealed playfully.

During her Australian Open campaign last year, Coco Gauff revealed that her father prefers walking laps around the stadium instead of sitting in the player’s box.

Coco Gauff’s Head-to-Head With Aryna Sabalenka is Tied At Present

Gauff comes into the final with strong clay-court form, having reached two finals in Madrid and Rome. However, Sabalenka poses a significant challenge, having won three titles this season, including the Madrid Open, where she defeated Gauff in the final. It was notably their most recent meeting on tour.

Their head-to-head record is currently tied at 5-5, setting the stage for an exciting showdown on Saturday. While Sabalenka seeks her fourth Major title, Gauff is aiming for her maiden singles triumph in Paris.
