Northerly winds aloft in the atmosphere are causing the smoke from these fires to cross the border into some of the Midwestern states like Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan.
So much smoke is reaching the surface that the National Weather Service has issued some air quality alerts for some of those areas.
If you remember two years ago almost to the month Syracuse and CNY had high impacts from Canadian wildfire smoke that affected our air quality and smelling like smoke for days.

Will any of this smoke impact Syracuse and CNY once again over the next few days? Here’s our Futurecast computer model tracking smoke in the atmosphere from now through Monday evening.
Of course as we see more sun come out in Central New York next week and winds shift to more westerly and southwesterly there is the chance that at least some light smoke may drift through our skies and even down to the ground level by the middle of next week.
Please check back for updates on this potentially impactful weather.
