Anyang beat Gangwon FC 3-1 in the 16th round of Hana Bank K League 1 2025 away game at Songam Sports Town in Chuncheon on the 28th thanks to Mateus’ multi-goal and Mota’s net goal. Anyang has won the game in six games since the match against Jeju SK on the 30th of last month. He maintained his ninth position with six wins, two draws and nine losses (20 points). It narrowed the gap to one point with 8th place Gangwon (21 points) and 4 points with 10th place Jeju (16 points).

It’s Matheus who led his team to victory. In the 21st minute of the first half, he cut the corner of the goal with a sharp left-footed kick in the free kick situation, and in the 25th minute of the first half, he calmly connected Moon Sung-woo’s pass with a shot to shake the net. He scored in four games after the match against FC Seoul on the 6th. He scored his fourth and fifth goals of the season in a row. It is the second time after front-line striker Mota (7 goals and 2 assists), who has the most offensive points in his team.

Matheus is the ace of Anyang. Born in 1997, he played on the Brazilian stage of his country. He moved to Anyang last year and stepped on his first K-League stage. He led Anyang’s attack with his sharp left foot kick ability. It played a big role in Anyang’s K League 2 victory last season. He has seven goals and 11 assists in 36 games. He was honored as the league MVP, the help king, and the best 11.

Mateus is the core of Anyang again this season. In both coach Yoo Byung-hoon’s 300 and 400, Matheus is playing the helmsman in the offensive situation. For the opposing team, Matheus is the target of intensive checks.

With the summer transfer market approaching, Anyang is in a position to protect Mateus. Anyang signed Mateus early on in July last year. At that time, he moved quickly for promotion. This summer is no different. Even after being promoted to the first division, interest in Matheus, who has been consistently active, continues.

Coach Yoo Byung-hoon worried about the possibility of players, including Matheus, leaving. Ahead of the match against Gangwon, he said, “I’m connected to several clubs. Honestly, I don’t want to send it. If you get a buyout offer (minimum transfer fee allowed), you won’t be able to help it. I’ll have to persuade him one more time. “I should make a wish, thinking that it’s more meaningful to be together in a difficult situation,” he said.

Amid coach Yoo Byung-hoon’s worries, Mateus said he will focus on Anyang. After the match against Gangwon, he said, “I haven’t heard anything about the transfer theory. First of all, the contract with Anyang remains. For now, the first thing to do is to run for our goals. Today’s victory is a pleasure. “I will go back and focus on the next game,” he said in response to the transfer rumors.

“It’s everything to me,” he said of the Anyang club. It is a team that opened up opportunities on Korean soil. I am grateful to be encouraged and loved by everyone. Fans are giving the same love and interest to my family. I’m so happy. I will focus on everything I can in Anyang this year as well as last year.”

Mateus said, “I think I came to Anyang for the first time last year and really worked with the spirit of a challenger. I tried to adapt to the K-League stage. Our team is not a strong team this season. It may be seen as an easy opponent in the other team, but we seem to be showing that we work well in the first part of the stage. There is a lot more to do in the future. I want to work harder and bring more good results,” he vowed.

Finally, “I think there are moments when either team is sluggish. We have players, coaches and coaches united. I tried to talk about what went wrong in the game and get through it. Everyone’s idea of improving the internal shortcomings was well-matched. I think I played well today,” he said, celebrating his victory.
