A pair of struggling Eastern Conference sides square off in MLS action on Wednesday, as Inter Miami begin a three-game league homestand by hosting CF Montreal at Chase Stadium.

Last year’s Supporters’ Shield winners are seventh in the East following a 3-3 draw with the Philadelphia Union on Saturday, and Montreal remain dead last in the conference, settling for a 2-2 result with Los Angeles FC.

Miami never seem to disappoint when it comes to entertainment value, but playing so aggressively is costing them valuable points.

Javier Mascherano‘s men are winless in four straight league fixtures while dropping points in five of their last six games in this competition.

That is their longest stretch without a victory since going winless in their final six regular season encounters in 2023.

While few would have expected this team to be where they are in the standings after 14 matchdays, the Herons have shown the same sort of resilience we witnessed in MLS last year, claiming three positive results in 2025 when trailing at the interval.

Despite scoring seven goals in their last three away contests in the league, Miami did not win any of those three outings, conceding a combined 10 goals in that time.

Everything was going Montreal’s way early on Saturday, but once again, it ended in disappointment for the Canadian team.

Marco Donadel‘s men were up 2-0 after only 22 minutes but could not hang on, dropping four points from a winning position in their last three games.

While that match did not end as they had hoped, five of the eight points collected by Montreal in MLS this year have come away from home.

On Wednesday Le CFM can win consecutive away matches in this competition for the first time in over a year, winning two of their opening three league contests as the visitors in 2024.

In their nine domestic affairs played in 2025, this side have yet to score an opening half goal, while they have conceded five first-half goals themselves on the road.

Montreal have won two of their previous three visits to Fort Lauderdale, defeating the Herons 3-2 in this exact fixture last season.
